Development of a Simple, Affordable Single-Seat Electric Aircraft

Project Duration
Sep 2023 – Oct 2024
Project partners
Kristián Kierulf
Project Description
Develpment of simple, single-seat, electric aircraft configuration based on the 'flying plank' configuration. The design is intended for a low-cost, easy-to-build aircraft with a fuselage-integrated electric energy storage and propulsion system arranged in a pusher configuration. The scope of the project included the design of a subscale model demonstrator for flight testing. The CAD model and manufacturing of the sub-scale model were done in Fusion 350 by Kristian Kierulf.
My Contribution
- Developed and analysed the configuration(s) in a multidisciplinary design spreadsheet.
- Evaluated and selected airfoils for both the full-scale aircraft and the sub-scale model.
- Supported manufacturing of the scale-model demonstrator in glass-fiber positive construction, using hand-layup method over hot-wire cut foam cores.
- Supported flight tests of the sub-scale model demonstrator.
