Project Duration
Jun 2019 – Jan 2020
Project partners
Stanislav Karpuk and Prof. Ali Elham
Project Description
Conceptual Design and Multidisciplinary Optimization of a Solar-Electric Blended Wing Body Aircraft for General Aviation. The research was initiated during the e-wing project in cooperation with the IFL Institute of Aircraft Design and Lightweight Structures at TU Braunschweig and resulted in a conference paper, that was presented by Nils Kleemann at the AIAA Scitech 2020.
My Contribution
- Developed a multidisciplinary analysis and optimization for the solar-electric BWB aircraft using SUAVE framework.
- Analyzed the aerodynamic performance of a blended wing body configuration.
- Optimized the airfoils for the application, icluding the high thickness-to-chord center section.
- Optimized the aircraft configuration for maximum range and endurance subject to a number of constraints.
- Writing and presentation of a conference paper at AIAA SciTech 2020.
- Collaboration with researchers at TU Braunschweig on the paper development and review process.
