Project e-wing
Development of a Solar-electric BWB Aircraft for General Aviation

Project Duration
Feb 2019 – Mar 2021
Project partners
Samuel Wiechmann and Michael Eiden and Benedikt Rings and h.da University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (FBG) and IFL, TU Braunschweig
Project Description
The e-wing project was initiated in 2019 between Samuel Wiechmann and Nils Kleemann with the goal of developing an environmental friendly, two-seated solar-electric aircraft. The e-wing project went on to deliver successful test flights of a scale model demonstrator, a research paper published at AIAA Scitech 2020 and sparked further research and thesis work into the user experience of air taxis and sustainable aviation.
My Contribution
- Published and presented scientific research paper at AIAA Scitech 2020
- Achieved successful flight of a scale, model demonstrator
- Led aerodynamic design, simulation, and optimization of the aircraft architecture.
- Coordinated and managed the project, including the involvement of partners and contributors.
- Developed the aircraft engineering model and optimization in the multidisciplinary design framework SUAVE.
- Supported the design and manufacturing of the scale-model demonstrator for flight testing.
